Read&Write is a literacy support toolbar built for dyslexic students, English language learners, and anyone who needs help reading and writing. Speech input is one tool among many — alongside text-to-speech, word prediction, dictionary and picture dictionary, translation, and screen masking. Two things have changed recently: Texthelp rebranded to Everway after merging with n2y, and Snap&Read and Co:Writer were retired on 31 December 2025, with their features folded into Read&Write.

What it does well
Built for literacy, not productivity. Word prediction, picture dictionaries, and screen masking address specific reading and writing difficulties. Nothing else in this directory does that.
Institutional pricing scales genuinely. $15 per licence at 150 seats, dropping toward $2.25 at very large volumes, makes district-wide deployment affordable per student.
Bidirectional support. Reads text aloud and takes speech input, which matters because dyslexia affects both directions.
Everywhere a student works. Windows, Mac, web, and a Chrome extension covering Chromebooks — the dominant device in a lot of schools.
Long track record in education. Well established with schools and disability services, which counts for procurement and for teacher familiarity.
Where it falls short
The rebrand makes information hard to find. Texthelp is now Everway. Older documentation, purchase links, and reviews reference a company name that no longer applies, and this entry's URL has been updated accordingly.
Two products were retired at the end of 2025. Snap&Read and Co:Writer users were migrated into Read&Write. If you relied on specific features of either, verify they survived the consolidation.
Pricing is institutional and opaque. The 150-licence minimum effectively excludes individuals, and higher-education pricing is enrolment-based and quote-only. An individual with dyslexia cannot easily just buy this.
Speech recognition is not its strength. Dictation is one feature among many and won't match a dedicated tool. If accurate dictation is the main need, pair it with something else.
Cloud-based. No offline mode, which matters for students without reliable connectivity at home.
